Shag

Shag - Clare Island

I took this photo just before I got the ferry to Clare Island from the main land (Roonagh Quay). It was a pretty dull morning and this was the very first picture I took. There seems to be a colony of Shags near the harbour, but try as I might I could not get a better picture of these guys. Still, it’s not everyone who gets a good shag on Clare Island!

Collared Dove

I was out in the garden reading my new bird book. One of the first entries was a description of the collared dove. It said that these can commonly be seen sitting on telephone wires. Sure enough I looked up at the closest set of wires and there were two collared doves looking down on me. I know! Its like they knew what I was reading and decided to freak me out. By the time I had dashed in to get my camera, one was kind enough to get a little closer for me to photograph.

Rook By Harbour

Rook By Harbour

The picture of the two rooks is not great but I like the way they are just hanging out on a grey day. I have read that Rooks mate for life, so this may be an old couple just enjoying each others company and watching the world go by. The rook by the harbour was pretty street wise, just waiting for his chance to swoop in when someone dropped their ice cream or chips.
